Rustic meets elegant in this inspired shoot set in the serene Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina. Gone are the days when an outdoor barn wedding meant only mason jars and burlap bibelots galore. No, not here. Instead, expect refined touches like bespoke stationery, gilded calligraphy, rare antiques, custom-dyed silks, and hand-rubbed mahogany signage. And still, those who appreciate the beloved and ever-popular agrarian aesthetic won’t be disappointed in the least. The Cabin Ridge lies just a couple hours drive from Charlotte yet seems worlds away with its panoramic mountainous views and open-air event space.
The floral designs by Bookout Blooms are simply divine. Soft dusty miller, structured leatherleaf fern and both baby blue and seeded willow eucalyptus varietials all combine for the perfect foundation of greenery and petite floral runner. The bouquet is ripe with the daring textures of red anigozanthos, plush burgundy hypericum berries, crisp white hydrangea, and furled alabaster roses. Crimson hand-dyed silk ribbons add the finishing touch, bringing out the deepest red tones of the accent flowers.
On the linenless table, sprays of greenery weave between the candlescape featuring geometric lanterns. Heavy vintage and Fostoria crystal goblets anchor the formal place settings while 14-karat gold rimmed wine glasses add height. To complete the polished yet approachable look, mismatched gilded china alternate at each place setting along with ornate flatware. Kale green linen napkins with hand-beaded fringe serve as the perfect complement to their crewelwork counterparts. To finish the tablescape, a selection of antique chairs – some hand-carved wood, some tufted in maroon velvet, and even a pair of cream and gold Louis XVI chairs have been placed.
As for paperie, we’re just smitten with these menus and the hand lettered invitation suite. A watercolor wreath featuring the same florals as our centerpiece graces each piece alongside modern gold calligraphy. Hand painted mountains and pine trees dot the paper signage and are scrawled with quotes. Added are the hand-rubbed chair placards with white lettering that simply reads “her forever” and “his always.”
This moody mountaintop shoot wouldn’t be complete without a daringly deep berry lip. More over, the bold choice of a dramatic smoky lid contrasts beautifully with our model’s baby blue eyes and porcelain skin. Her relaxed updo features tousled curls, a wide dutch plait at the crown, and even a few free face-framing strands for effect.
Our soigné real couple, Denis and Evelyn, are dressed to impress but not too overdone. He’s clad in a crisp poplin shirt, khaki trousers, and claret bow-tie and suspenders while she dons a simple lace and tulle gown. Want to know our shoot’s biggest secret? Our bride’s budget gown was actually ordered from… Amazon! Shhhh…
