2016 – Charlotte’s Style Week, brought to you by the North Carolina Fashion Association and Spectrum Creative Group, displayed a remarkable assortment of design styles. Compiled below are runway highlights- including intriguing facts about the designer and brief style details. From sultry swimwear to custom bridal gowns and a great variety of other original looks- each one of these designers has a distinctive + unique approach to fashion that is fascinating to all interested in such industries! We feel honored to have experienced such a well-organized event and are looking forward to attending Style Week in years to come.
Enemy To Fashion
Enemy To Fashion began Style Week as the first designer of the night. This opening segment was inspired by futuristic fashion and modernity. We enjoyed seeing the variety of details that clearly showed the time and effort put into each piece. There was a collection of diverse colors, eccentric styles, and various textures that created a very unique show. Our favorite pieces were created with a one-of-a- kind print saying “Positive Vibes Only”.
Pixton Design Group
Designer Kimberly Pixton Millar of Pixton Design Group awestruck many individuals with her beautifully executed runway presentation + prodigious collection of elegant gowns, proudly made in the USA. The black + white color scheme left a timeless feel of romance and beauty in the fashion, design, + wedding industries. Her compilation of styles included scalloped detailing, pieces incorporating black velvet elements, delicate lace features, dresses draped in sequins, and her signature white fit and flare gown accented by an oversized black + white striped bow- one of our personal favorites!
Evolve + Rebel
Evolve + Rebel – A Charlotte based brand, designs original styles by reinventing old ideas and 100% recycled fabrics to create new eclectic apparel. Their unique approach to fashion along with their emphasis on clothing as a form of self-expression allows women and men alike to differentiate themselves, we love this idea! Their assortment of styles include inspiration from graffiti artists as they seek to inspire the viewer of their pieces to “Wake Up” to oppression. Evolve + Rebel uses a variety of materials in their designs such as unhemmed/torn denim, chains, clothespins, paint, leather, blindfolds and risque sheer fabric to push the boundaries of fashion. The audience applauded in silence during their finale when a young male model holding a vibrant sign saying “Pray For Orlando” strutted down the runway. This was a very meaningful moment for the crowd and for us, one of our personal favorites of the night. This added a great touch to the design team’s overall runway presentation as it really touched the hearts of many due to the recent events in Orlando, FL.
New Orleans born + raised, Maria Alicia Patricia displayed her country chic style at Charlotte Style Week with her twist on casual wear. She included mainly denim fabric punctuated with floral accents. To bring the whole look together she had the models styled meticulously with perfect braids and bright makeup. Her clothes are wearable day-to-day while still pushing the envelope, which was one of our favorite parts about her line.
Cherry Bomb Swimwear
This Charlotte based company, Cherry Bomb Swimwear, turned the heads of many in the audience. This sultry swimwear line calls itself a “Sweet + Spicy mix of Rock-n-Roll, Pinup, and Futuristic Fashion”. We had many favorite looks in this mainly black + white collection that featured metal and leather accents. The designer receives his/her inspiration from art, people, and music- which clearly shines through in the show they put on.
Jerrick Grey, a London local, showed an eclectic mix of gowns, jumpers, and well-composed styles using a variety of fabrics and textures. Jerrick Grey is a luxe women’s fashion designer who perfectly accents a womanly figure with his designs. His taste is impeccable and the models truly glow in his clothing! You can tell they love the look just as much as the audience Our favorite look of his had to be his stunning blue ballgown!
